passing this on largely for my non-fen friends (the fandom folks will most likely have seen this already):

LJ has recently disallowed creating new Basic accounts (which are the free accounts without ad content) in a most annoying manner, which is to say *without announcing the policy change*.  they did this in conjunction with temporarily filtering their 'most popular interests' list to take out things like fandom, boys, girls - basically, trying to take out sex-related topics in an effort to attract more paid ads to their site.

now, all of this is their right as a private company, but users also have a right to be aware of policy changes and the whys and wherefors of such.  to protest the underhanded way LJ has been making policy changes lately, you are invited to participate in an 'LJ Day of Silence', in which no content or comments are posted whatsoever for 24 hours, to start Friday, Mar 21 00:00 hours UTC time.  For New Orleans-area folks, that's 7pm Thursday.  Here's a link to a time converter to help you determine when the start time would be in your area.  i plan on participating, if only to see if i can wean myself from LJ for a day (RMike, i'm looking at you and your crackberry!).

i think i'm going to have to stop visiting [profile] seremela2's lj every day, tempting as it is.  her icon is just... so... lickable.  i mean, take a look.  who could resist a chest like that?  i know i'm having a tough time resisting.  ::stares a bit, not noticing the drool pooling at her feet::

and the thing is, if i get caught licking the screen at work, people are going to look at me funny.  either that, or my tongue will get frozen to the moniter - never can tell in this meatlocker.

 good morning campers!

i'd like to welcome [profile] sarjanya, [profile] thumper_montoya, [profile] byrondelancy, and [personal profile] palewolfto my friends' list.

friends, the new folks are all SCA people who play with me in the local barony, although poor thumper has to do it long-distance.

new folks, meet my friends - over there around the tv is [profile] karieflybabe, [personal profile] thefourthvine, [profile] gillyp, and a bunch of others; they make up the fanfic/fandom portion of the list.  that group chattering about guns and current issues is the baen's bar section - [profile] strega42, [profile] walkingbear, [personal profile] ratseal, [profile] 8bitnintendo, etc... and i have a [personal profile] soldiergrrrland [profile] sappersgt, whom i was pointed to via military blogging type stuff.  and then of course, there's the cross-over group: [profile] mzmadmike, [profile] soldiergrrl & [profile] sappersgt, [profile] oscagne, and [profile] falcongirl are all in the SCA in various other parts of the country, as well as sharing other interests with me.

so last week, i couldn't sleep, and this week, i can't seem to sleep enough.  today i declared a mini-cheat day:  i had a starbucks pumpkin spice latte, with half-caff and soy milk, a plain bagel, and plain cream cheese.  latte was worth it because it was 48F this morning.  i'll be good the rest of the day, but gawd, i needed that coffee.

i had nightmares last night.  all about people pressing too closely, and not letting me go - invading my personal space and implying threats.  eesh.  [personal profile] ratseal may be right about me needing to get out more, but he makes a wonderful imaginary teddy bear.  he's cute and strong and he's been emotionally present and cuddle-able in the past for me and it really helps.

well, only about half of my flist responded to my requests for confirmation, which is about what i actually expect from my flist.  i know a number of people who have an lj, but never actually check their friends' page.  i used to be one of those people, so i suppose i can't complain, heh.

now, i happily clutter up everybody's friends' page with lots of useless updates, and it's mildly amusing.  the next big organization project - the bills.  i actually already have everything for this project, but i've been putting it off because i'm lazy.

::looks of mound of bills::

or... maybe i'll just make some more gingerbread cookies...

ok, i went through my lj and re-set the locks on various posts to the correct list filters, and this morning i went through and put various people on lists i think they belong on.  if you can't see the post locked to the:

LIFE filter
HEALTH filter
FANNISH STUFF filter
TMI filter

it means you're not on that list.

if you would like to be *on* a particular list, please reply to this post.  if you want to be *taken off of* a particular list, please reply to the relevant locked post.  thank you.  and i know, some of you are on every list... you don't have to write a thesis - just 'hi' will do.

ok, something is very wrong here.  lj has been quiet *all day*.  this is not like you people on my flist.

since lj is the spice life, that must mean you're all dead.  except for ratseal.  except - waitaminute!  i bet rat was the one who killed you all!  and since that's not normal for *him*, he's probably infected with some weird brain-changing disease.  like... zombie-ism!

OMG, LJ IS FULL OF ZOMBIES!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

ok, the second part of re-orging my lj is setting up filter lists for my friends' list.  i'm doing this in two parts - a set of filters for me, mostly based on reading patterns, and a set of filters for folks on my f-list.

so for me, based on reading/ posting patterns, i have people and groups i want to check 'daily', 'weekly', and 'monthly'.

for the happiness of folks on my friends' list, i have filters set up for 'life', 'health', 'fannish stuff', and 'TMI'.  now, most of my stuff is publicly posted, and that's likely to continue.  what i figure i'm going to do with those filters going forward is:

LIFE filter: most things tagged life will probably remain publicly posted, but i will probably flock to this filter 1) life-meta, 2) grumbling about things like periods, and other stuff that's... normal but not usually brought up in polite conversation.  this filter already has on it everyone who has friended me.

HEALTH filter:  i figure on reserving this filter for folks who are really interested in my weekly stats for my diet.  there are a few people whom i know will want to have this information, i don't mind adding more, not a big deal.  but i figured the majority of my friends probably don't want that stuff cluttering up their friends' pages.

FANNISH STUFF filter:  most of my fannish stuff - specifically fan-meta and gen fanfic - will remain publicly posted going forward.  this filter is primarily for those who also want to opt in on reading any slash snippets i come up with, or the more personal meta like 'do your bedroom tastes coincide with your slashy tastes'.  again, i figure like 90% of my flist can do without.

TMI filter:  this is for the really personal painful stuff about me that i'm not comfortable with 90% of my flist seeing.  there are some people who i'll probably put in here right away, but you should definately mention it if you would like to be exposed to the inner ugliness.

i'm going to try to keep my filters to these four.  if you would like to opt-in or opt-out of a specific filter, please reply to this post.  otherwise, i'm going to put people where i think they'd want to be.  i'll be logical about it, but you still might be surprised where you end up.

well, part one of re-orging the lj is done - went through and re-tagged all the entries, and will try to keep the tags minimal.  next part is re-doing the filters so it's more useable.

one of the things that going through and re-reading my lj has reminded me of is just how glad i am you came into my life when you did.  you're an awesome friend, and deserve every bit of hub-bub and fussing and stitchery i do for you.  never doubt it.  ::hugs tight::

so... since i'm re-organizing my life around a d&e program, i'm thinking of re-organizing my lj, too.  i may even actually file my bills like they should be. :-p  sometime Real Soon Now (tm), i'm going to ask people to post what they'd be interesting in seeing: generic life stuff, d&e, fanfic-oriented things, etc, ad nauseum.  don't hold your collective breaths, but do keep an eye out for it, because i'll be re-organizing my filters around that, to keep from cluttering my friends' lists up with stuff they don't want to see, and to help me more effectively read posts on my own friend's page.  i've never been really good about using lj effectively, but hopefully, this will help.  if nothing else, it will help me get in the organizing mood, and hopefully that will extend to my bills and even cleaning out the hard-drive and updating certain files to newer media...

so when i posted my big long to-do list, then post-dated it to sept 2020, i read the lj faq to make sure i did this correctly.  the lj faq says to click on the 'edit' tag, next to the date, the check the little ticky-box for 'out of date' order so you *won't* get an 'out of order' error when you (physically) post something new.

except that you *do* get an 'out of order' error if you do that.  and so i, being the good little engineer that i am, followed the directions in the error mssg box and faithfully checked the little 'out of date order' ticky-box for the next 3 posts running.  and then wondered why no one was replying to my heartfelt pleas lj posts.

when i checked rmike's friends' page, i realized that by ticking that 'out of date order' box will result in your posts not being sent to your friends' friends' pages.  oops.  iow, the whole shebang is exactly *backwards* from what the FAQ *specifically tells you to do*!  yay for completely inaccurate instructions, right?

so, if'n you're interested, between sat. to now there are 3 other posts you might not have seen.  nothing earth-moving, just a heads up.

oh, and don't listen to lj.  they suck.

-bs, shaky, so you'll forgive her spelling (otoh, i might be able to sleep this afternoon after work - yay!)

ok, i'm late to the party, but i've had other stuff on my mind... like hurricanes.  and headaches ::sighs::

anyway, [profile] karieflybabe, i totally agree with you and [personal profile] fluterbev re plagiarism in the senficfind comm.

[profile] starwatcher307 , i want to answer the question you asked the other day in your 'blogging while female' thread, about why i brought up one particular point.  there's a deep answer there, but it's taking a while to settle out.  and my teeth hurt.  gah, i can't wait till these cavities are filled.

that is all, right now.

i have bought another crockpot!  it's bigger than the last one!  i will triumph!  I will prevail!  I will.... have more leftovers than ever before. :-p

i also bought myself my birthday present this year:  a sunbeam breadmaker.  so i am now on the hunt for folks' favorite bread recipes.

it's official, my crockpot has a crack in it, going all the way thru the stoneware bottom.

my crackpot theory on this is that it's gone through a few too many thermal cycles.

but the end result is suckage, because when i 'cook', it's usually crockpot fair.  i haven't decided if i want to see if i can just replace the stoneware pot, or buy a new pot.  what i really want is to be able to fix the cracked pot magically, so i don't spend any money... but i don't think that's going to happen.

Ljcoms

Ljcom fandom_counts now has 35,040 members.  this amuses me, because i thought for sure it'd stop growing at 31,000.  growth slowed down a *lot*, but it's still growing, which is pretty cool.

i am trying to figure out what to post for the pro-fic grand opening post on library_alex.  my mind is coming up blank.  right now, the candidates are: kildar, hymn before battle, anita blake the first, or moon-called by patricia briggs.
