The Space Shuttle's retired, Dick Clark's gone... it feels weirdly like the end of an era, so many things are *ending*.  in a timely manner, many of them, but still...

I told my husband the world is definitely ending this year. Without Dick Clark to usher in the New Year, it's just not gonna happen.

don't i know it. possibly the Mayans weren't predicting the end of the world, but the death of Dick Clark in 2012.

on the other hand... in a IRC chatroom i'm in, we're contemplating staking Dick Clark's hair, just to make sure it's not a vampire in disguise...
