just a link to my latest workout blog, where-in i ponder about how, and how much, exercise fits into the program.

so i posted my first 'work-out blog' post last night on the dreamwidth community i put together for it.  and promptly had a nightmare about trying to stop people fighting, and they weren't listening to me, and mom was letting the fire get out of control, and dad and mom were fairly estranged and i was trying to get them back together, and my siblings were laughing at me, so i ran out into the snow to get away and they wouldn't leave me alone, and then the ship blew the engine and crashed into a nearby port area and it was a rush to get everyone off....

i'm thinking maybe i'm just a bit anxious about how the work-out post will be received.  just a tad, hmm?

this is *not* a request for people to run over and comment - just something i had to get off my chest.

... is in the house!  not necessarily gonna be online a lot this week.

yep, i got tired of the best buy commercials, too, though i thought that in a musical-technical sense, they were well done.  so, i upgraded to a paid account.  now my faithful fan-club (ahem) can peruse my livejournal without idjit advertising.

i'm planning on changing my layout, but i'm also planning to keep the main comment page, etc in format=light, because i understand other people won't want to read lime green on black (which is sorta soothing to me, sorry guys).

meta: 1) - n.  an essay characterized by discussion of little-known factoids that most people in the world don't care about.

2) - v. the process of searching for hours for that one little detail that will make or break your essay, which is too long and kind of incoherent anyway.  and enjoying the search.

i just wanted to thank sallymn for the virtual snowflake. :-D i love snow, so it's a real treat to see snowflakes show up on my profile!

and also, i think 'there's a rain advisory in effect' may just be the greatest understatement of the year this year, given the weather out there. *shakes head slowly and watches water pour from everything*

and for those of you in Mag7 fandom on my list, Charlotte has graciously decided to up load the Green Day fic to the Drinking 'n' Fighting archive. thanks, Charlotte!

ok, so in metaquotes, there's a discussion going on about the NHC package, and i wrote something that i knew would sound pretty damned cold.  and i just wrote a phrase clarification, and i'm aware it's still pretty damned cold.  and in a way, i don't give a rat's ass about how cold people think me, because we're talking my money here, and how it gets spent, and how often it seems the government is spending my money on useless programs that don't actually improve anyone's quality of life.

and i'm almost crying about this.  but i think it's end-of-the-week blues combined with general tiredness.  but still, there's something wrong with a system that will care for an illegal alien who has no $$ and no insurance - but *won't* care for a *legal* citizen who just got dropped from their insurance and *is* making every effort to pay - but can't, because they aren't actually *poor enough* to qualify for welfare.  the system is fucking broken, all right?

and some of the things that have been brought up in that argument - SS and medicare - they don't actually make sense as arguments to me, because to my mind, *neither* of those programs are really viable.  or helpful in the long run.  actually, i'd be a lot more in favor of those programs if they were both *voluntary*, but they're not.

i've got no idea why i'm so freakin' upset, but *gah*!

hey, did you get the email i sent to your inbox?  it was quite long, and i haven't heard back from you, so now i'm starting to get worried it didn't come through. :-p

i can resend if need be.

[Error: unknown template qotd]believe it or not, using floral tape to keep my christmas tree from falling over.  i live in an apt, and have limited room to set up a christmas tree.  i bought a fake tree last year, and as i set it up, i just left the branches off the back side, which of course, made it lean to the front.  i was afraid it was going to fall over, so i took some floral tape and tied to one of the upper branches on the backside, and to the treestand.  the tension in the tape made the tree stand up straight, and all was saved.  all else is duct tape. :-)

after due consideration of comments on the previous post, i am inclined to agree that the replicators would win against posleen in a contest with a KO in the first round.  however, this does bring up the question of who would give the replicators a run for their money?

flist, what is your opinion on the coming bouts between

1) replicators vs. the Borg
2) Jaffa/ Gou'a'old vs. Posleen
3) Tribbles vs. Smurfs

just a short entry to say that i love [personal profile] synecdochic.  she has another commentary responding to the fall-out from the OSBP, which is actually on how *not* to be 'That Guy', which i encourage my barfly flist to read - i figure most of the media fandom section has already read it.

speaking of gender issues, kathrynt has a short entry about raising her own kidlet, and why she's doing things that would make her rant if she saw it in other people.  not deep and thinky, but does show just exactly how strongly ingrained gendered activities are in our culture.

finally, let us now turn our minds to the wonder of gun pr0n, courtesy of [profile] mzmadmike...  i'm not a gun bunny by any means, but there's just something about being able to create great swathes of destruction with the touch of a button that appeals to me.  that thing is almost as interesting as those big howitzer thingies on the battleships.

so the Ghost review i linked to a couple days ago has spawned a t-shirt design contest

i was going to suggest doing redshirts with 'oh john ringo no!' on them in black for libertycon, but i think it would be better to combine efforts, as David is planning that the proceeds from t-shirt sales will go to charity.  right now, he's thinking to split it between a Veteran's Support group of John's choice and a charity one of his usual readers is more familiar with.

so... my request is: 1) if you're onboard with the t-shirt idea, go sign up for one.  and 2) if a trusted minion of John's could notify him of the t-shirt design thread so he can indicate an appropriate charity preference, that would be good.

::goes to sign up::

not sure how he found it, but John Ringo found David Hines's review of the Keldara series.

i have to say, issues with subscriptions aside, the more i read of *John's* reaction to the books themselves and the hub-bub surrounding them, the better i feel.  this is because it allows me to see John as human again, which is important if i ever want to be able to read his books - any of his books.  yeah, things inside get pretty knotty over when it comes to the Keldara books.

we were discussing them in chat last night, and [profile] strega42mentioned she'd like to lay out her opinions in lj behind a cut so they can have a discussion without upsetting me.  to be fair, [personal profile] luke_jaywalker asked if i would say what my issues with the series were, and i chose to answer... but it seriously winds me up.  i was struggling very hard to stay contained, so my conditions last night were that i would answer the question, but not discuss either the answer or the books.  to say my upset was obvious is probably an understatement - but that is, of course, exactly why discussion is out of the question right now.  i can barely stay coherent long enough to lay out my own opinions of what i see as the major issues, so i know any attempt at discussion is going to be seen as an attack - at best.

and i'd dearly love to lay out my own opinions on the matter in a comment-disabled post - but i can't do that, either.  i can't let this be 'real' to me yet.  there's stuff there - deep emotional shit - that i'm just not ready to face.  and if i type it out in a permanent format, it's there everyday.  it's real, and i have to face it, because it's staring me in the face, daring me to ignore it.  i get through my life one day at a time - and this just isn't the right time for facing that particular pile of shit.

at any rate, this is my favorite line from John Ringo's comment on David's review:

"If YOU think you were thinking 'OH JOHN RINGO NO!', be quite aware that that is what I was thinking most of the time. Especially in Ghost. The book was so over the top, my working title was 'The Wanker Piece.' (Marketing forced me to drop the title. :-)"

this makes me giggle.  because i can quite seriously see him saying that to himself.  'omfg!  wtf am i *doing*?!'  and then when people started saying he should publish it, i can see him going 'i cannot *seriously believe* you like this crap!  and it *is* crap!  omfg! wtf am i *doing*?!'  and it makes me like him more to know that he recognizes the wtf-ery of this particular series.

anyway.  that is today's public post.  if i post more, it'll be on the GDPfusion fic thing.

PS - and everyone who was in chat with me last night, thanks for putting up with me.  ::hugs::

it is mildly disconcerting to look up the daily postings on [community profile] crack_van,  eager to read about the latest recommendation of smutty action/adventure with your favorite dusty cowboys - and then suddenly realize you are the crack_van driver for mag7 fandom this month...
