so, i'm talking with a friend about dietary things, because i'd like to eat salad again, and right now it sets off the IBS, and i didn't even know you could cure it.  he's sent me a couple links to some information.  and i'm all \o/... until i realize they're Ted Talks links.

nothing against this form of information spreading, but i happen to learn better by reading.  yeesh.  can i have an old-fashioned textbook? tyvm.

i shall muddle thru anyways, because it is for my health.  there's really no other reason to give up steamed broccoli other than my health.

I don't see why the Ted Talk links can't swing you in the direction of books....

You mean they don't mention books or suggest where to look in those particular talks? Man! I did not realize that.

actually, what i meant was that since it was the first time i ever went to that site, i wasn't even aware they might have had those links. i didn't find out till *after* i wrote the OP that they actually transcribe the talks on the site, which at least solves one problem.

Re: better by reading, you and me both. Some people just don't process information well in certain presentation forms, and others may not be able to use those presentation forms at all (how, for example, would Helen Keller have coped in a streaming-media world?).

I am totally irked by the prevailing attitude that "just because we CAN do it this way because of OMGINTARWEBZTEKNOLAJEE!, we MUST do it this way because of OMGINTARWEBZTEKNOLAJEE!". One can hope that, just as desktop publishing eventually mostly got past fontwanking, information transmission will mostly get past streamwanking and emojilling-off.

(And just as a side issue, what the hell was wrong with NNTP that everyone insists on re-inventing the un-networked BBS (webforum)?)

and for me, a lot of it is that when i'm tired, i don't like noise around me. even electronic hum noise. i think it's because my subconcious tends to interpret 'noise' as 'pressure on my skin' - but don't quote me on that. i just know that after work, *listening* to something is often the last thing i want to do, especially since i've had to concentrate *through* the noise of the office all day.

i'm seriously thinking of getting some of those safety ear muff things for work...
