i don't remember this when i pulled the carpet up, but there's a huge crack in the cement slab in the office, across the far corner of the house.  it looks level with the rest of the floor, but the crack itself is pretty damned wide.  oi.

You can probably skip the "frost heave" parts, I presume, but the rest is likely to be relevant. (Sure, you could just repair as is, too; but having some idea why it happened might help prevent the repair from being done again.)

yeah. the link looks really good, but i think i'm gonna call in a pro to look at it. the water table is so shallow in this area i just don't want to take chances. it's *probably* just settling, but it'll pay to be sure.

i'm thinking i just didn't notice it, but it doesn't matter either way: i'm going to call a pro in to look at it and tell me if it's just settling and can be fixed with a patch, or if i need to get it fixed-fixed. Dad says it's probably just settling, but the water table is so close to the surface in this area, i just don't want to take chances. and the link murstein mentioned above looks real good, so i've resources, at least. :-p
