so, i've owned my house free and clear and have been trying to paint it and fix it up.  the verdict on that is:  the painting is going well, but frustratingly slowly.  and that's the base coats.

and also, i can now say from experience that if you're covering a dark color, use primer before your final paint coat.  white or light walls, it doesn't seem to matter so much, but the dark maroon in the kitchen is peeking through 2 coats of green yet.

i'm on month-to-month right now, and will pay the apt thru Oct-ogre; my move-in date is Fri, October 12th.  hiring it done, because i totally don't want to mess with it.  Some stuff I'll move myself, of course - personal stuff, the bows, the embroidery stands, the electronics except for the tv... but most of it, i'll let them mess with it.

i was asked today what colors i was painting by a coworker, so i was explaining some of my ideas.  she goes 'wow, how did you come up with all this stuff?  did you research it, what?'

'weeelllll,' i said, 'understand that i've been dreaming about owning my own house for *years*.  like, since i was at least 15.  and i drew my first castle when i was ten.  and it was great.'  (she raises an eyebrow.)  'except it didn't have any bathrooms.  i figure i'm doing better now - i've got *2* bathrooms!'

which pretty much sums up my relationship with the house, and why i'm painting it in a rainbow of colors. :-p

Depending on the paint you are using it can have primer added to it. Saying that covering the cerulean blue took 2 coats of the paint with primer.

Oh yeah. The last time I painted I bought Kilz primer (it comes for either dark or light coverup) and laid down two thin coats. After that my family liked it so much they would have been totally okay for me to leave it as is, without the paint on top, heh. Happy painting, hon!
