so, i have successfully filed all the bills and 'important papers' - by which i mean student transcripts, the auto loan sequence i got to pay for my teeth, health records, etc. i had to buy a new plastic storage box and because they never have the same designs two years running, i ended up getting a new 20gal tub instead of the usual 10gal tub. it galls me to have mis-matching boxes so much, i bought a new box to keep everything together. yes, i'm a dork.
i'm waiting on two things before i put the box away, except for this year's file folder: file this year's taxes (haven't gotten the W-2s, yet, but will by the end of the month, it's law), and i need to get my new DL and license plates. and i probably need brake tags, but those don't require my birth certificate to get. ;)
speaking of which, i completely failed to find the DMV this Friday - they have *no* street signs in the area the DMV is in, so i ended up driving for an hour looking for this building. and then Sunday, i drove around for an hour trying to find SCA practice - i found the right park, but they were across the Bay for a regional FP instead. :-p. and then i failed to find the right restaurant for the local fetlife bunch. yes, i've got kinky tendencies, but i haven't been able to indulge in them, except in the context of fiction, so i'm dipping my toes in the local community and seeing if i don't get so freaked out i run away screaming. the restaurant i went to was a nice sports bar, just not the right one. so Sunday i was kind of head-desking over the frustrations of being new to the area.
it's wash-day, and i decided to bring in the fireplace pieces to see if they're still outgassing. they still have a strong smell, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. and also, i'm putting vacuuming the apartment and cleaning the bathrooms. i hate chores.

Date: 2011-01-19 12:58 am (UTC)1) it makes me feel good to know that people care and
2) the kink scene can be easily and maliciously and viciously abused, and that can be difficult for newbies to navigate. i don't think i would have decided to 'try out' the local munches, even, if i hadn't been assured by someone i know in another context that the local bunch is pretty ethical, and i could have a formal introduction if i needed it, and she would def act as a sanity check in terms of who's safe as well.
you're totally right that it's important to be careful, and i take that seriously, as i'm fairly certain i have 'fresh meat' stamped all over my forehead. i'm just trying to re-assure you, my good friend, that i haven't been flippant over this, no matter what it sounds like.
*moar hugs*
