writing is... still driving me nuts...

so, the problem i'm having with Seventh Gift at the moment is that wishes in the beginning need to come in the order that they appear in the main text of the story.  *but*, everytime i try to deliberately assign a wish to one of the seven, i realize i'm going to need to re-order the wishes *again* to make them work within the order of the story.  so i'm at a point where i could possibly start writing the scenelet for the second gift... but i'm not sure it'll work where it is, and if it doesn't, what order should it be in?  or should i reassign the gift to someone else?

argle-bargle.  it's making my head hurt, i tell you!  what's worse is, i don't really want to talk about it online, so to speak, because i want it to be just a surprise.  also, assume i re-order the wishes in the prologue - how do i handle that in story updates?  yargh!

Why not write out the scenes as they work with the story, and then write out the order in which the wishes appear?

for some reason, my brain isn't working that way on this story, but i really do need to find a way to hit the 'reset' button so it does. because really, i should totally do that.

still leaves the issue of how to handle updates, though, because i've already released the part that has the wishes *listed*...

Hee! Yeah, this is part of the reason why posting WIPs doesn't work for me. Did I mention the 20K I wrote because I thought it was (mostly) a whole story only to have it turn into a damn prologue? Cue one massive edit as I'm coughing into the microphone telling my audience that, ahem, please bear with us as we're having technical difficulties, lala laaa. And could you please forget everything you've already seen? *smiles winningly*

So, hm. Could you pretend we don't know what is going on and write the story out so the wishes work in the context of the story? Which would kinda make it more Seven Gifts instead of Seventh Gift but hey, whatever helps you find the flow, so to speak.

oddly, posting WIPS keeps up just enough pressure for me to work on the story without getting stressed out about it. although i'm a horrifically slow writer, having a posting keeps the story on the front burner enough that i'm actively working on the details in my head, even if i'm not actively working on the actual typing of it.

i think what i'm going to do with Seventh gift is to write the main story as it needs to fall out, and then go back and re-order the wishes in the prologue. and when i update, i'll warn readers what i'm doing, so they'll know why things might seem 'out of order'.

i don't YIM very much, but i'm on AIM most nights - my name there is boogieMonika if you'd like to add me as a buddy. i would like to have some more fandom friends though, so i'll look up the YIM stuff. i'll have to check and see if i can add a YIM to my trillian program.
