got this from polly_b's lj:

'The last great Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chief Wilma Mankiller, has walked West into the Great Mystery. She was only 64, but she'd suffered a lot of health problems including chronic kidney disease and a fairly recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.'

i can't say i admire her, because i don't know her or her life well enough *to* admire her - or despise her, or anything else of the sort.  what i feel is sad that we have lost another great leader in a time when we need great leaders, where-ever they come from.

*salutes Ms. Mankiller*

there are more details of Chief Mankiller's life here in the Tulsa World.

I read that this morning :( I did admire her, but then again, I was lucky enough to meet her.

yeah. i've only seen a couple things here and there about her; enough to know that she was a strong leader and well-respected. things seem so socially stressful right now in the good ole' US of A that i'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. *sigh*
