weekend round-up

i did garden work this weekend. i probably should have done some inside chores, but i prefer weeding to vaccuuming, so... garden. :-D
i did try seed starts earlier this year, but i managed to drown them, so i had to plant sage, chives, onions, and turnips all over again. they went into the hanging baskets. i'd thrown out all the old dirt and matting in the baskets because it was getting pretty ratty, so the baskets all have new coconut matting and new dirt. i finally decided basil rathbone didn't survive the winter, so all five of them got new stuff. i planted turnips in two of the baskets on the theory that i'd eat more of them than the onions and stuff. we'll see.
i put some more lavender seeds into the lavendar pot, and the rest of the lavendar into the pot with the apple and chocolate mints. :-D i don't actually think the chocolate mint smells all that nice, but eh, mint! i'd accidentally bought some lupine, and i decided to plant that in the pot with the hollyhock of doom, because the package said they were ok in partly shady areas.
the front extension has most of the baskets and containers in: i'm going to plant potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, brocolli, and cauliflour in the yardlet proper. and along the walk will be containers of snapdragons, celosia, and rosemary. awesome stuff.
i also fed the 'hocks and the blackberries their spring feed - a shot of bone meal, blood meal, and miracle-grow fertilizer. i ran out of bone meal, so i need to get more tonight.
finally, i did some painting of pots - black on the pot base and gold rims. all the pot-pots will be painted thusly, and then i also have neon paints to paint different designs on the pots themselves. the two terra-cotta pots i have, one has a wolf and mountain scene on it (which looks like a 6 year old did it), and the other has a horse and plains scene (which looks better, cause i know how to draw horses).
i'm going to put my personal device - which i haven't passed - on the potato pot, and the axemoor device on the sweet potato pot. i've got 4 more T-C pots to buy, but i'm not sure what kind of designs they're getting. it's sort of 'as the inspiration strikes'.
my muscles are now mildly sore, heh, but i'm excited about new growing things!
