I suspect that your "problem" with Barflies, is that they are NOT treating you as a stereotypical "normal woman." (I.e. the Faints at the idea of guns and self defense.) They are seeing you as: a fellow fan, a fellow geek, and finally a woman. (Normal process is woman, geek, fan, for many "men.")
