ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: HOUSE
Sep. 15th, 2012 03:17 pmSkill Level: Sweet!
needless to say, i'm over the moon for this, hah!
closing yesterday at 3pm went fine and smooth. managed to transfer the electricity to my name last night - but didn't call the trash company before they snagged their garbage can. and of course i realized when i got to the house this afternoon that i needed to take down all the blinds... which won't be going back up. the blinds are actually nice for what they are - i just hate blinds in general. i prefer curtain accessories. :-p
today, i woke up at 5.30, too excited to sleep, took morning meds, then immediately crashed until 8.30 - oops!
but i got myself together, went to Sherwin-Williams for paint, and had an excellent conversation with the guy manning the store today, and bought 4 cans of paint, rollers and tray, extender, cut-in tool, some empty containers for doing the small amts of paint thing, sheeting to protect the hardwood floors, rag to wipe things up if need be. just got reminded i need to also get spackle tomorrow for the holes from the blinds and curtain rods, in addition to : extra toilet paper, small trash can, sponges to clean drawers/shelves with, water so i don't dehydrate.
i stuck my own ladder in the car, and thought that was the height of planning, lol. I need to remember that i want to paint all my ceilings, so i'll need to take down lights for that part of the process. i believe Home Depot has a metallic finish 'base' paint they can use to mix my behr yellow color in. I want a gold, but a brighter gold than the martha stewart colors on display. that's the color i'll paint all the ceilings, and the two short hallways, and the column stencils in the Foyer/Living Room/ bottom half of the kitchen.
i'm going to do the master bedroom in a grey based stone-look, and the 1st guestroom will get a similar treatment, but in sandstone colors. one of the walls in the master will be painted robin's egg blue instead, and get a mural of Neuschwannsteinn in winter, and some stone balustrade-looking wall-paper decals over it. wall decoration in the guestroom: if i can find it, heieroglyphic version of ancient egyptian love poetry.
the kitchen is split with a chair rail. the lower half will definitly be the same green as the living room and foyer, but the upper half - i'm leaning towards blue right now, the same robin's egg blue as in the master bedroom accent wall. i want to stencil lodge-style stencils on around the kitchen, because i found cute ones. and evidently, i'm a dork, hah.
the other two bedrooms will become the workout room and the office. the office will have all the bookcases and craft shelves as well as a desk with a desktop computer. all these things are dark brown, so i'm going to paint the walls that robin's egg blue so whatever peeks through lightens the room instead of darkens it.
the workout room... doesn't have a plan as yet. i am planning to paint the trim through-out the house the dark-brown wood-stain color, and build out the moldings around the windows. and also, just about every single window will have a stained-glass style window film on it. i love that stuff.
i stopped by target and got soda and a small radio to keep my company while i worked, and trash bags to keep the paint tray clean between painting sessions.... then i got to the house, and discovered the seller had left a few things in the kitchen drawers, hadn't gotten to cleaning out the fridge and freezer, and left a lot of hangars in the closets. so my first 3 trash bags went to 'cleaning out the stuff left behind' - except for the fridge and freezer, which i will do tomorrow.
she also left a microwave, which is smaller than my own, and a 'frydaddy', which i think i know what it is, but i won't use it, i bet - and a bunch of batteries. some were new in the package, but since i didn't know how old they were, i pitched them all (in a separate trash bag). i need to go down the road in a few days and ask if they take D and C-cells. i found a tongue-thermometer in one of the drawers... i didn't want to pitch that, because i don't know if it's a mercury-bulb. i couldn't tell on first glance, and i didn't study it enough. but dude. *excited*. just sayin'. ;)
i had bought a couple of filters at target, so i changed the air filters, took some notes on things i needed to do and bring tomorrow, and that was the end of my first day. well, i set up one of my folding chairs in the living room, but i didn't even sit on it.
my theory at this point is to do all the painting first, then replace the carpets and the linoleum in those places that have it. the only 'thing' i'm keeping from the original decorations are the wooden floors. they're a nice dark mahogany stain, and will hold up well in high-traffic areas.
still *very* excited, lol.
