archival decisions
Jun. 1st, 2010 03:41 pmso... i've been looking at archiving options for my fics, now that i've got more than one to think about. my fanfic will be posted in entries here (LJ), at my DW acct, at Archive of Our Own when i get my account set up, and Drinking an' Fightin' as appropriate, once i get my account there straightened out.
i am further thinking about setting up an actual webpage. i have friends who will be happy to host a webpage for me, but i'll have to look at my options before making a final decision. however, i'd like to have a webpage because i'd like to have a place to host fannish cross-stitch patterns, which category of items may well be far too small for AO3.
i am not going to archive at BlackRaptor, because upon review of their policy, they don't allow cross-overs with book-based universes: the other universes have to have movie or tv-based canons. this means i wouldn't be able to archive my werewolf-AU stories there, because the other universe there is Patricia Briggs' s creation. if i ever write the ATFxUkiah Oregon story i have periodically rattling around in my brain, i'll have the same issue. it's also true for any mag7xpern stories, or mag7xvaldemar stories.
add to that, i have to send in stories to submit, and really don't have editing control over the text and graphics once i do. stories there are hand-coded by the archivists, and while i admire their dedication, i'd much rather retain editing control to my own hand.
i realize this decision won't affect anyone but me very much, but anal brain is anal, and has a checklist of things to work out. one of those things has just been checked off.
