summer writing commitments

well, the good news is, i got a job within my field, so i feel like i can make some sort of commitment to progress on the TS AU thing that's been burning in my brain. the bad news is, i don't think i can write much actual story by the end of summer - i just write too slowly, and have too many other things to do this year (including moving and buying my first house - in new orleans!).
but i would like to make some kind of public commitment to progress. so, i think i can get most of the major research done for it, and a coherent global timeline worked out. this is important because it's basically a long disaster story :-p.
it's going to involve a ground invasion by the chinese - i think i can get work out time-tables and research appropriate chinese tactics to use by end of summer.
most of all, i think i can write a coherent 'introductory' chapter/story, introducing all of the characters, explaining the pending disasters - well, the ones the characters know of, which are the impending chinese invasion and the satnet problems. i think i'll let the supervolcanoes and massive earthquakes be a surprise to most everyone.
so that's my commitment: by this summer's end, i want to have a good intro chapter written, and the majority of my research and timelines finished so i know where i'm going, when. with whom might require more thought.
