fanfic silliness
Dec. 1st, 2005 10:07 amok, so i was fart^H^H^H uh, reading up on all the fanfic symposium (http://www.trickster.org/symposium/) columns (some good stuff there) and i came across a column defining terminology as it relates to story size (http://www.trickster.org/symposium/symp162.html). you know, a drabble is a 100 words, a short short is less than 500 words, etc.
and i found myself thinking - 'i wonder what the shortest fic ever is?' the shortest verse in the Bible is 'Jesus wept.' at least, that's the one everybody quotes, although i think there are a few other two-word verses in there somewhere. and i'm wondering, just how long does it take for story-ness to come through?
so, here's my challenge to all and sundry: in as few words as possible, write a coherent 'story' - by which i mean people understand what's going on with the content, not necessarily that it has a long, complex plot. ie, it can be a vignette, as long as people not necessarily involved in a particular fandom or whatever can understand what it's about.
here is my own (exceedingly frivolous) effort:
Reactions
The horn blared signifying the end of the game just as the ball sunk into the basket.
"Hah! The Timberwolves won, Sandburg!" my roommate gloated. "Pay up!"
I handed over my last twenty dollars and grumbled under my breath at my favorite player. Orvelle, how could you do this to me?
fini
ok, so how did i do? what can the rest of you do? can you think of anything shorter? or a way to trim *my* story?
i'd really like to see what people can come with, so please, post away.
