christmas greetings, all

well, it's that time again. giving season's greetings and warm wishes. i'd like to wish my flist happy holidays, whichever holiday y'all celebrate.
speaking of season's greetings, i was doing my christmas cards at work today, because i had a whole list to get through. you know that list - the one you always forget to put Great-Aunt Nita on every year? yeah, that one. i was confident my card stock would make it through the list, because i'd bought a box with 32 cards - enough for the list and a few left over so i could re-do screw-ups. and wouldn't you know it? i didn't have any screw-ups this year, so i ended up with a *lot* of cards leftover. i guess it's like bringing your umbrella to stave off the rain...
in an effort to actually use up those cards instead of just pitching them, i went through the address book looking for people to send cards too. that got rid of 7 cards, because about 1/2 of the addresses in their are 'repeats' - addresses that had been crossed out and redone as people moved to different locations. a bunch of addresses are obsolete because i've lost touch with the person. one is a dead person, whom i never crossed out because her address makes me remember her fondly. and there are a lot of people with no address, just a phone!
so, with about 7 cards left, i wrote two people i need snail mail addresses for, because i don't have current ones:
ratmike
esperanza
could you two PM me with your current addys? thanks.
and then i decided to write to my favorite actors. i need a snail mail addy that will eventually reach the following people:
Michael Beihn
Dale Midkiff
Richard Dean Anderson
Richard Burgi
Michael T Weiss (of Pretender fame)
i'm thinking Official fan club addresses or something where i can send the letter and pretty much garuntee it will eventually get to the right guy.
in apt news, i un-boxed myself for the most part, except for my textbooks. the place is a lot more liveable now. i'm going to work on getting the dvds and craft boxes done this week and next week will be text books and receipt filing. in the new year, i need to remember to contact my relocation agent and ask her how to file my relocation receipts. my shoulders are sore, but i can garuntee room for the washer and dryer.
in US news, the Repeal of DADT has been passed. now don't get me wrong, i fully support the notion of gays being able to serve openly in the military, and gays *and* women serving in all MOS's freely. what i'm not sure of is the Repeal's wording, because as far as i understand it, repealing the DADT means the previous policy is in place, which forbid gays to serve in the military entirely. there has to be a replacement policy to supersede that prior policy if the Repeal means the step forward that gay activists think it does. i haven't found the Repeal's wording, so i can't read it and be sure that a replacement policy is actually included. of course, my google-fu sucks majorly, so if anyone wants to chime in with a link to the bill's wording, i'd be grateful. because i keep getting the feeling that this is going to turn out to be something different than what everyone seems to think.
i am in the midst of putting together this year's to-do list. for obvious reasons, a lot of last year's list got jossed. this year's will be somewhat smaller as i don't plan to buy a whole lot for this apt, although there are a couple things that might get bought just because it's time. also, no garden this year. i don't have enough room anyway, but the $$ i spend when actively gardening needs to go into the savings-for-house pot. regarding the house itself, took a look online around Baldwin and Mobile counties, and found 1 other Tudor - in worse shape and costing more than the one in Lucedale. in fact, i may end up in mississippi just for the cheaper housing. the place in Lucedale is by far and away the best deal i've found around here. still, i've got a year to look around and see, and so i shall make good use of it.
in the near future: watch for the 2011 to-do list, and a write-up comparing to 2010's list.
