Signal Boost

got this from polly_b's lj:

'The last great Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chief Wilma Mankiller, has walked West into the Great Mystery. She was only 64, but she'd suffered a lot of health problems including chronic kidney disease and a fairly recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.'

i can't say i admire her, because i don't know her or her life well enough *to* admire her - or despise her, or anything else of the sort.  what i feel is sad that we have lost another great leader in a time when we need great leaders, where-ever they come from.

*salutes Ms. Mankiller*

there are more details of Chief Mankiller's life here in the Tulsa World.

my impression was she was strong and stood tall. admirable.

pancreatic cancer is ugly. twenty years ago, at least, it was a guaranteed dead in a few months... (or it was for someone in my family)
