stain out-gassing is not healthy...

so... i just moved my free-standing electric fireplace, or at least the pieces thereof, to the storage unit for a couple days. reason being, the stain/paint on the pieces was out-gassing bad enough that what i thought was a caffeine headache last night was actually a mild case of anoxia. which i didn't even realize until i went to work, and my headache got *much better* within about 2 minutes from leaving the house - and that was *after* the headache had lessened considerably since i slept upstairs from the fireplace.
yeah, smack me with a clue-bat, huh? so, picked up a couple pieces of scrap lumber from Lowe's and moved all the pieces out to the storage unit for a few days to out-gas in an environment that can vent a little bit better. plus, i didn't feel comfortable running even a jumped-up space heater around that much... potentially flammable vapor. the scrap wood, by the way, is used to raise the pieces off the cement floor, so they won't wick up any random moisture from the rain and cold and warp.
when it stops out-gassing fit to kill the vermin in the place, i'll ask the apt maintenance guy if he wants to put it together for me for $50 or so - it's not difficult, but it's not co-operating with me, either, and i don't feel like messing with it, really.
in other news, i have expanding file folders for filing taxes and bills and etc. but i'm feeling lazy and don't really want to do it. :-p
