It's taken me longer than normal to do the goals post for 2015. The large part of this is that I've been sick. In fact, I'm sick again as I write this. However, this too, shall pass, and it's time to get busy.

my birthday is next week.  high on my "most wanted" list is a steamy Escorts AU fanfic.

Buck/ Chris anything.

Supernatural anything.

Kidfic with Buck or Chris the little ones (but not Buck and Chris both little in the same fic).

Sequal to "Loser Takes All" - what happens the next time someone gets in trouble? ;)

I have a special love for Vin is psychic/ gifted in some fashion stories.

I quite like the Yellowstone AU - gen or slash, more please?

Crack!fic... wing fic.... Crossover fic - i lover "Xander's real parents (Xander from BtVS)";  love the Highlander AU fics; how about some more Sentinel/ Mag7 fics, any time, any place, Sentinels known or not. :-)

All that, and if the Lord and Lady are truly pleased with me - a break in the weather.  I'm getting tired of 80% humidity and 95F weather....

The To-Do List is undergoing a lot of changes from the 2013 version, mostly based on lessons learned, and with a goal to keeping better track of all the things I *really* do, which don’t always get put on the list.  The better I know how much I actually do, the less I feel like a slacker when things on this list don’t get done.

ETA1: 22 Mar, first major update
boogieshoes: (Default)
i've been having major drama with my computer lately, culminating with an emergency buy this weekend. follow along the story now:

so the guest room is being done in 'bad victoriana impression of ancient egyptian' (because an accurate rendering of ancient egyptian furniture, even for the pharoah, would make guests run, instead of be delighted...), and the stencil being used to put grout lines on the wall got, well, gummy, as repeat stencils tend to do. and i decided to clean it with acetone.

this was my first mistake, because i had the acetone sitting higher than my toshiba laptop, and i was tired, and knocked the bottle over, and it splashed on the toshiba. i let it dry, but the keyboard was fried. so i went and bought a cheapy plug-in mouse and keyboard. then i started having problems with weird input bugs, and i thought it might be the old keyboard reading stuff even though i was using the plug-in. i researched at work, dl'd instructions to take out the on-board keyboard, had second thoughts, and bought a wireless keyboard and mouse. the wireless combo worked for a while, especially after i updated the java script that runs things.

then the input bug came back. and i got frustrated friday night, and decided to finally take the inboard keyboard out... mistake #2.

i killed the toshiba. so Saturday morning i went to the local target, and bought new laptop. and an external hard-drive. then i went to the computer repair shop and asked if i could get a data transfer, and a downgrade to windows 7.

the data transfer was relatively successful. they didn't manage to get some of the programs across - like pidgin, the chat client, adobe reader, openoffice - but they got most of the files across, and did get mozilla firefox and thunderbird across. they got my old email file (yay!), but unfortunately, they didn't get my old bookmark file across. which sucks.

so monday (one of those short saturday/ closed sunday places), i picked up the laptop and brought it home and began to remove the crap windows insists on putting on their new boxes. i'd managed to put pidgin back on the new lappy, and gotten to the chatrooms - always the hardest part of a new machine for me - so i could have help if i needed it.

until i deleted the 'bluetooth thing'. yes, mistake number 3. see, i think bluetooth, and think the schizophrenic phone or smartphone type things. i don't think WLAN drivers... guess what this was? back to the computer store, sigh. and out more $$ to get them to undo my stupidity.

needless to say, i'm no longer going to be fixing my own computer. the local repair shop are nice people and don't make fun of me. at least while i'm in the store, hah.

anyway, i need to rebuild my bookmark file, so i'm taking favorite links in the comments for fanfic, writing tips, neat places to shop... etc.

... and not quite sure how i managed to spend 200USD at a new grocery store today.  i blame the dogs.  the largest one of which managed to bite my boob last night while we were playing, and the smallest of which likes to steal the large one's toys.  brave little dog.... ;-)

the good news, for those keeping track of things i 'need' on my way to starting to write again, is that i bought a desktop/ tower system over the weekend, and i'm nearly done buying cubicles for the office... mostly because there's only so many that will fit in there.  the bad news is that i still have a ways to go, yet.

we now return you to your regular reading.

that's right, borax, which is sort of like baking soda, vinegar, and bleach - one of those things that's been around forever, the active ingredient in a hell of a lot of stuff, and rather ecologically sound.  Lowe's didn't have it, Target didn't have it, and I almost gave up at Wal-mart.... amazing how different the box looks when they change the packaging.

so with the wal-mart run tonight, i've got the stuff to mop the cement floor, which i will do after a quick vaccuum over the crack in the slab.  then, it's fill the crack with joint compound, do the ceiling while that dries (it'll take a day), touch-up paint the walls, and then paint the floor with a cement-sealer.  *then* i can go buy carpet.  which will be laid down properly, thank you. ;)

in fannish news, i'm progressing well on my mag7 doggies stitching.  i'm on Buck, the german shepherd dog.  i'm having a bit of a debate with myself, and would appreciate the commentary of my fellow fans - Buck doesn't seem to have a 'signature' bandana like Vin does.  in the pilot, he wears a pink one, in One Day Out West, he wears a dark blue one, and in the Collector (which I'm watching as I write this, hah - and Vin is wearing a *brown* bandana!), he's wearing a dark red/ maroon bandana.  the cross-stitch key has the Buck-dog's bandana as dark grey/black (because of the tones used in the piece, it actually 'reads' black).

i'm planning to change the bandana's color, but i'm not sure what color i should pick.  anyone have any suggestions?

also, if anyone knows more about pic-manipulation and can zero in on the bandana in this picture, it'd probably help people to see exactly what i'm talking about.

2012 To-Do List

A few comments on 2012 from personal memories:

2012 was dominated by achievement of HOUSE, which is awesome in several ways.

I plan in layers when it comes to finances, you see... )

So, all the ‘serious’ wishlists have been made and sent out – the fandom stocking list is here, and my wishlist for the adults’ gift exchange was for my gift-giver to find a soldier serving in theater, and send him or her a letter.    What follows below is my ‘if wishes were horses’ wishlist… cause it’d be kinda cool if even the poorest among us  could afford good horses, good tack, and good equine-services to take care of our mounts.

so, i was buying barbie dolls for a toys for tots drive the other day and thinking, again, that it would be cool to be able to use my breyer horses in dioramas to tell stories, and that would work great for mag7 'comic book' style re-tellings.  my brain has come up with images of an entire basement-full of 1:9 scale items - houses, carriages, fences, saloon, chairs, etc - populating my own personal 'set'.  only problem is, 1:9 scale pose-able figure dolls are hard to find if you're only familiar with Barbie.  you have to go to Ball-jointed dolls, and then have to customize those because they're made primarily for, well, hobbyists who love to do that sort of thing.

so i just spent a couple hours looking for doll heads and body-parts, and information on customization, when i ran across a page of in-progress pictures.  of doll heads.  with and without eyes.

staring at me.

even if they have no eyeballs.

trying to suck my soul from my body.

evil creepy f*ckers.

yeah, i forgot how much i'm creeped out by dolls.  especially the eyes.  i hate the eyes, staring at me.  *shivers*  i don't think i could create mag7 char dolls without giving myself nightmares.

*sheepish look*

of course, i hate mirrors, too, for much the same reason.  creepy non-people staring at you.

so i meant to post this when i got home, but guh.

i've got a house this year, and i love it, and this is one of the best 'thankfuls' ever. :)

i'm thankful for:
my parents, who love me despite driving me crazy, and whom i love, especially because they drive me crazy.
my sister, who understands
my brother, who's an incredible cook
my brother-in-law, for making sis happy, and helping me learn to laugh
my sister-in-law, for making my brother happy, and being willing to put up with the lot of us :)
my oldest niece, who inherited my mother's voice - not the tone, but the 'pealing church bell' quality to it, which i've always
thought was the most wonderful sound to come from a human throat
my next-oldest niece, who plays a remarkable violin
my 3rd-eldest niece, who's an amazing accompianist
my youngest niece, who's turning out like me, except she can actually play chess, lol
my twin nephews, one who's sure to be an engineer like dad and me, and the other who's looking to drive my brother crazy by
doing all the things *he* did when bro was a teen-ager
my flist, who quietly send me hugs when i need them, and support when i'm feeling down
my baenbarchat and callahan's friends, who give me stimulating conversation in the evening, even though i live alone
my friend kentbobII, who cracks me up every time
my SCA friends and family, who aren't as consistent about contact (because life), but love to see me when i manage to get to
an event, or drop by for a visit.

and soon i'm going to be thankful for christmas vacation... so i can spend more time painting the house!  such a big project, lol.

boogieshoes: (fresian)
.... so i went to the polls today, and did my civic duty by voting.  it was a tough choice.  oh, i'm not talking about the actual candidates on the ballot, but rather who i'd write in.

.... is that it's never written fast enough!  Debra Noellert has a new story going on here: ; and if you look at the dates, she's not exactly writing *slowly*.  she is, in fact, updating in a 'timely fashion'.  it's not fast enough for me, because i've *got* to find out what happens next!

*wriggles in impatient anticipation*

and also, i hereby apologize to everyone who's waiting on any updates from me on any stories anywhere - Miss Noellert is outpacing me by a long-shot, and if *i* think waiting for *her* is hard, waiting for *me* must be downright torturous!

boogieshoes: (Default)
.... or does this look like a young Micheal Beihn to you?

it's Kyrie Elaison by Mr. Mister... and then i got to thinking... if that lead singer looks like a young Micheal Beihn, the keyboardist reminds me of Ezra... and of course, once i started down the rock band AUs, then that has to be Vin Tanner shyly peaking out from under his hair on drums (the 1980s did *nothing* for his hair... just sayin')... which means the guitarist is probably Buck... with a dye job... ooo, boy.

back to your regularly scheduled fandom, now...

gym stats

Mar. 27th, 2012 06:33 pm
boogieshoes: (Default)
so finally made it back in to the gym today, and i did:
3 miles on the reclined bike
time: 18.50ish.

my feet and muscles hurt, which is good, but eesh.

in other news, i felt the need for a worry stone today for the first time in *years*.  before GW, i kind of walked into the trash/bathroom guy at work making a pass at me.  i didn't realize he was going there, and i didn't mean to lead him on, but i'm not attracted to him, and he managed to push all my paranoia buttons by asking me if i'd date him right *after* he determined i was all alone in the area, *and* after he started the conversation by admitting he couldn't remember my name.

i don't think i've done anything flirty or whatever, but i let it go and figure i'm over-reacting.

today, he changed his route on the second floor to come past my cubicle - usually he goes up the middle.  i still don't think he's dangerous, and i still think i'm over-reacting, but he's hitting all my 'oh shit!' buttons, and i don't know how to let him know it's not appreciated without making a big deal over it.

the sad thing is, if i gave him any 'signals' at all, it's because i talked to him like he was an equal, not an inferior

this afternoon, i kept wishing i had a Buck Wilmington handy to take care of this problem for me.

sorry for the double post tonight, but i didn't want people to have to go thru the gym stats to get to the dream journal.

I woke up this morning covered in sweat, and dude,

it wasn't even much of an action dream! )

And then I woke up, because my alarm went off, and the sheets were
soaked through with sweat.

why does it always end when it's just getting good?

2011 To-Do List

So, as many of you know, I moved to Mobile this year for a new job.  Yay job!  With a new job comes a new place and etc, and at this job, I will be making enough to really save up for a house.  That's going to be a major goal of mine, thus, this year's To-Do List is going to be fairly short, since it's going to have a lack of stuff on it.

wow, look at that list! )

The next post will likely be a compare/contrast of the 2010 vs 2011 list, showing what things are different and why.

so, for everyone who celebrates a holiday of some sort this time of year - happy holidays!  whether it be Christmas, or Solstice, Yule, Kwanzaa or Chanakah, or some holiday i'm not familiar with, i sincerely wish you the best holiday ever.

and for those of you who don't have a specific holiday or break time at this point - i hope your next upcoming holiday or break is just as special and heart-warming and happy-making for you as our Winter Break/Yule/Christmas period is to us.

so, i don't bring it up a lot, but i'm Wiccan.  Wicca is a fertility religion that is focused on the cycle of life/death/rebirth, and the wheel of the year - spring/ summer/ autumn/ winter.  our big holiday this time of year is the Winter Solstice, one of the 8 Solar Holy Days we celebrate.  Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, longest night.  although Hallowe'en - Samhain - is the official 'End of the Old Year'/ 'Beginning of the New Year' holy day for most of us pagans, i admit to doing most of my 'turn of the year' chores around Christmas time.  it feels normal and natural to me, not in the least because it's the way i grew up - making resolutions every year at this time and planning out the next year.  of course, the Gregorian Calendar cycles to December 31st, not October 31st, so it also makes it a practical tradition for things like fiscal organization, etc.  and also, most businesses in the Western Hemisphere take this time off - hey look, 'spring cleaning' time... and also time to sort through what i have to do to make my own dreams and wishes come true.

all of this to say that in the immediate future, you can expect:

1) lessons learned from last year post
2) To-Do list for next year

i'm also hoping to clean up a few odds and ends this next week - i'm going to be visiting with my parents at the lake house, and i won't be online much, but my two big things are finishing the silly ornaments i wanted to do for everyone, and finishing a bunch of 'fics that i promised myself i'd do.... we'll see, but i'm hoping to at least make some progress on 7th Gift, and finish the slice of life fics that started with the Chris's 'Wednesday Meetings', and a couple more fics in the Highlander AU thing.  when i get back, I'd like to see how many pieces i can upload to AO3....

of course, i'm probably over-scheduling myself. :)

boogieshoes: (Default)
I want a new story in the Skip Trace AU, preferably post-Vin having any lasting doubts about the threesome with Chris and Buck, with hot sex between Buck, Vin, and Chris.  It can be a PWP or longer fic mostly made of sex scenes, or a long, angsty h/c fic with lots of hot sweaty sex in lots of configurations.  But mostly, I want the smut. ;-)
